Tornado drill set for March 20

You may want to circle Tuesday, March 20th, on your calendar.

That’s when Indiana will conduct a statewide tornado drill.

The drill will be part of Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Indiana, March 18th thru the 24th.

The National Weather Service will test the statewide Emergency Alert System – or EAS – at 9:15 a.m. Central Time on that day.

The mock warning will be issued for 15 minutes.

If real severe weather is threatening, the drill will be postponed to the following day.

In a news release, Indiana Broadcasters Association Executive Director Dave Arland said all Hoosiers know how erratic weather can be in the state.

He said broadcasters want to make sure the alert systems are “firing on all cylinders in case Mother Nature shows her worst."

Arland said broadcasters have been participating in the drill for more than three decades, and remain committed to keeping Hoosiers safe.
