Main break prompts East Side boil advisory

A water main break on Evansville’s East Side shut off water service and prompted a boil advisory.

Officials say a 12-inch main broke at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Burkhardt Road Monday afternoon.

The break disrupted water service in that area.

After crews fixed the break, the Water and Sewer Utility issued a precautionary boil advisory for homes and businesses from the intersection of Lincoln and Cullen, east on Newburgh Road to I-69 and Covert.

The advisory also stretches south from Covert and Seasons Ridge Boulevard to Pollack and I-69.

It also includes a couple of neighborhoods south of the interstate.

As a precaution, people in the advisory zone should boil tap water for at least five minutes before using it for cooking or drinking until the advisory is lifted.

Officials will lift the advisory when tests show no sign of contamination.
