Weinzapfel considering run for Congress

Ivy Tech Evansville Chancellor Jonathan Weinzapfel says he’s considering a run for the 8th District Congressional seat.

WNIN News asked the former Evansville mayor and state representative if he was thinking about a run for the seat held by Republican Larry Bucshon…

("Obviously, I've had a lot of people approach me about that and it's something I'm giving some consideration to.")

Terre Haute attorney William Tanoos entered the Democratic race for the congressional seat in August, having raised more than $80,000 by Sept. 30th.

Weinzapfel maintains a Democratic political action committee that reported more than $455,000 on hand at the end of 2016.

On the Republican side, Jasper-based doctor Richard Moss has signed up for the May Primary, despite losing to Bucshon by 30 points last time around.

Bucshon has served in Congress since 2011.

Candidates have until Feb. 9 to file for the May Primary.
