Vanderburgh County residents have an opportunity to safely dispose of toxic household waste this weekend.
The Vanderburgh County Solid Waste District will conduct its 20th Tox-Away Day in Downtown Evansville on Saturday.
It will be conducted from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the Civic Center’s “Back 40” parking lot.
Items accepted for disposal include: Antifreeze, used motor oil, pesticides, household cleaners, aerosol cans, solvents and thinners, oil-based paint, pharmaceuticals, and mercury-containing items like thermometers and fluorescent light bulbs.
Items not accepted include: Latex paint, commercial and industrial waste, explosives and ammunition, infectious and radioactive waste, gas cylinders, appliances, computer equipment, or tires.
The program is open only to Vanderburgh County households, no businesses.
The solid waste district contracts with Cincinnati-based Environmental Enterprises to collect and dispose of the materials.
