Back to the books

Wednesday is Back-to-School day for many students in the Tri-State.

Evansville-Vanderburgh, Warrick County, Henderson County, and Daviess County are among school districts welcoming back thousands of students and staff on Wednesday.

Students head back to class Thursday at Mt. Vernon and North Posey schools. Some schools have already resumed classes.

Police agencies are stressing safety regardless of when the school bells ring.

Both the Evansville Police Department and Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office say they’re stepping-up patrols in school zones, where drivers can expect reduced speed limits.

The EPD urges students and parents to use sidewalks and crosswalks, and to follow the instruction of crossing guards.

The sheriff’s office says deputies will be watching for unsafe driving and school bus stop-arm violations.

Deputies will also help direct traffic in and out of some school parking lots.
