Deaconess officials have renamed their Evansville hospital.
It’s a move designed to clear-up confusion between the original hospital location and Deaconess Gateway in Warrick County.
The Evansville facility at 600 Mary St. will now be known as Deaconess Midtown Hospital.
Nearby Deaconess-affiliated facilities are now included in the Deaconess Midtown Campus.
Deaconess opened a 19-bed hospital at Mary and Iowa streets in 1893. A three-story brick structure was added in 1899 and Deaconess had beds for more than 60 patients.
Deaconess Midtown is now a Level 2 trauma center with 249 private, inpatient rooms and space for 58 outpatients.
Deaconess says all of its inpatient units have been remodeled or updated in the past 4 years.
