The National Weather Service is warning of a potentially dangerous heat wave.
Forecasters call it “our first prolonged duration heat event of the summer.”
They’ve issued an Excessive Heat Watch beginning Wednesday afternoon through Sunday evening.
Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-to-upper 90’s with heat index values peaking near 105 degrees each afternoon.
Forecasters warn the combination of heat and high humidity will lead to an increased risk of heat-related stress and illness.
They say the most susceptible are the very young, the elderly, those without air conditioning, and anyone participating in strenuous outdoor activities.
The also warn car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
You’re advised to drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids, stay in air conditioned areas, stay out of the sun as much as possible, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
