Body of Evansville man pulled from lake

An Evansville man is dead after a nighttime swim in a Warrick County lake.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says 41-year-old Jeremy Bunker and his wife, 38-year-old Vanessa Bunker, were swimming after dark in Yellow Banks Lake near the beach area Saturday night.

A news release from the agency says the two became disoriented, encountered some aquatic vegetation, and tried to swim to shore.

Bystanders saw Vanessa Bunker struggling to stay afloat while yelling for help.  They jumped in and rescued her but Jeremy Bunker was missing and presumed to be underwater.

An Indiana conservation officer using a remote underwater vehicle spotted Bunker’s body early Sunday morning and divers recovered the body.

The DNR says alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident.
