Alcoa to restart potlines, add 275 jobs

Inside Indiana Business

Alcoa plans to add up to 275 jobs at its Warrick Operations.

Alcoa has reached a six-year agreement with Vectren that will provide power for Alcoa’s plan to restart 3 smelting lines at the Warrick County plant.

A news release from Vectren indicates the restart will be completed in the second quarter of 2018, creating up to 275 positions.

Vectren Chairman and CEO Carl Chapman calls it a “significant economic development win” for the community. He says the Evansville-based utility is pleased to play an important role.

The smelter at Warrick closed in March 2016.

Alcoa says in a news release that 2 of the 5 smelting potlines will remain idle.

The Warrick Operations currently employs about 1,250 people.
