Police agencies stopped 53 vehicles during a sobriety checkpoint in Evansville the night before Independence Day.
Of the 53 vehicle stops, officers arrested just 3 people.
The Evansville-Vanderburgh County Traffic Safety Partnership conducted the sobriety checkpoint at First Avenue and Lohoff.
A news release from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says the 3 motorists were arrested either after entering the checkpoint or after being stopped for a traffic violation before the checkpoint.
The Sheriff's Office, Evansville Police Department and Indiana State Excise Police all took part from 11:00 Monday night until 2:00 Tuesday morning.
The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute provides money for the local checkpoints through a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
