Crash kills young Evansville woman

A crash on St. Joe Avenue claimed the life of a young Evansville woman.

It happened shortly after 4:00 Sunday afternoon at the intersection of N. St. Joe and Mohr Road.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office says the first deputy on the scene found a female driver trapped inside a light blue Ford Taurus that was overturned in a field.

Volunteer firefighters extricated the woman from the car and medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but she died at the scene.

The Vanderburgh County Coroner identifies the victim as 21-year-old Brooklyn Springston of Evansville.

A news release from the sheriff’s office says Springston was apparently driving at a high rate of speed on Mohr Road and failed to stop at the sign at St. Joe Avenue.

Her car collided with a pickup truck driven by 28-year-old Jacob Kluesner of Evansville.

The sheriff’s office says Klessner suffered a head injury in the crash and an AMR ambulance took him to a hospital.

The crash remains under investigation pending toxicology results.

An autopsy is scheduled for this (Mon) evening.
