A veteran Indiana State Police trooper faces a felony charge in an insurance fraud case.
A release from Indiana State Police says a four-month-long investigation resulted in the charge Tuesday against 37-year-old Lucas P. Zeien of Evansville.
The case stems from allegations that Zeien divorced his wife in April of 2008, but failed to update the dependents on his health insurance. That resulted in Zeien's former wife and two children from another marriage continuing to get health insurance coverage from the plan that covers Indiana State Police personnel.
Zion was appointed to the Evansville state police post in 2007 as a patrol officer and was later assigned to investigations.
The Level 6 felony charge was filed in Marion County. Zeien has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of the case.
