A confinement officer at the Vanderburgh County jail has found himself on the wrong side the bars.

A news release from the sheriff’s office says investigators learned 24-year-old Officer Trent Dean Nolan was providing tobacco to work release inmates.

The release states detectives initiated an investigation and learned that Nolan had also agreed to meet a work release participant at an off-site location to sell a prescription medication.

With the cooperation of the inmate, detectives set up a controlled buy.

The sheriff’s office says Nolan met with the participant Monday night and sold a quantity of the stimulant Ritalin, which is a Schedule II controlled substance.

Shortly after the transaction, sheriff’s deputies stopped Nolan’s vehicle and took him into custody.

The sheriff’s office says Nolan admitted to selling the medication, was booked into the county jail, and was formally terminated of his job as a confinement officer.
