UE student killed in crash on Hwy 41

A University of Evansville student is dead after a semi crashed into his stopped SUV on Highway 41. 

 

Indiana State Police said 20-year-old Devin Cyr of Remington, Indiana, was stopped on 41 at County Road 100-West in Gibson County Saturday afternoon when a tractor-trailer driven by 66-year-old Kent Hayenga of Linn Grove, Iowa, failed to stop and crashed into Cyr’s vehicle and another stopped car.

Cyr was trapped and Princeton firefightersextricated him from the wreckage.

He was taken to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, where he died on Sunday.

The driver of the other car, 22-year-old Dylan Barnes of Mount Carmel, was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville with non-life threatening injuries.

Hayenga was not injured. There was no word of charges against him.
