The University of Evansville has dedicated the newest addition to its campus: a small, historic house.

Long before the tiny house movement, there was the Peters-Margedant house on E. Indiana Street in Evansville.

The brown, stylish single-story house was moved last summer to UE for a renovation that’s now completed.

During a dedication ceremony outside UE’s Koch Center for Engineering and Science, architect William Wesley Peters’ son, Brandoch Peters, remembered his father.

He said he originally wanted to be a naval architect.

Architect Adam Green said the small, Usonian house designed by Peters’ father was ahead of its time. He said Frank Lloyd Wright designed a similar house two years after's Peters' prototype.

Curator Heidi Strobel said all ages will find the structure interesting. She said it was a precursor to the recent energy efficient "tiny house" movement

Strobel says the house will be open to the public twice a week, but visitors must call UE in advance to make an appointment.
