Tomes may face GOP challenge

If Indiana Senator Jim Tomes runs for re-election, he’ll face at least one challenger in next year’s primary.

Republican Brady Hall of Evansville said he will formally announce his candidacy for the Senate District 49 seat later this week.

A news release from Hall stated he was raised on the West Side, graduated from Reitz High School, and then secured a business degree from UE.

Hall was also a cross country athlete, worked at Hilliard Lyons for 3 years, and recently joined the firm Wealthtrends Advisors.

In the release, Hall is described as “passionate” about local organizations and community causes, including Mesker Park Zoo, the Evansville Police Department Foundation, the Evansville Area Trails Coalition, Habitat for Humanity, and HOLA Evansville.

The 27-year-old says his legislative priorities are halting the heroin epidemic and revamping the state’s manufacturing base.

The 68-year-old Tomes, who lives in Wadesville, is considered one of the more conservative members of the Indiana legislature. He has served since 2010.
