ONB robbed, suspect quickly arrested

Police made a quick arrest following a bank robbery in Downtown Evansville.

Police were called to the Old National Bank headquarters at Main and Riverside at about 9:30 Wednesday morning.

A news release from the EPD says witness told police that a man entered the bank, walked up to a teller’s station, reached in and snatched cash from the teller’s hand, and ran out of the bank.

Central Dispatch said the robber did not show a weapon, and nobody was injured in the hold up.

Responding officers and a K-9 team arrived and quickly tracked the suspect to Riverside Drive near Ri Ra’s Pub.

Officers took 38-year-old Troy Howell into custody without incident.

Police say witnesses identified Howell as the man who robbed the bank, and money recovered from him was about the same amount as was stolen.

Howell was taken to the Vanderburgh County jail on a preliminary count of robbery.
