Microchip reunites dog and owner

VCSO

A dog found in Vanderburgh County last weekend has been reunited with his owner in southeast Illinois, thanks to a microchip.

The Great Pyrenees named Tuscy was found in the Darmstadt area Saturday night, about 35 miles from his home in Crossville.

A news release from the Sheriff’s Office says the command post recently acquired a microchip reader and was able to identify the dog and contact its owner, Aaron O’Daniel.

O’Daniel was puzzled how Tuscy – short for Tuscaloosa -- made it to Darmstadt. He said he last saw the dog at his house in Crossville a few hours earlier.

To verify ownership, O’Daniel described his dog to a sheriff’s deputy.

O’Daniel explained that Tuscy survived the February tornado that destroyed their home, but as a result Tuscy has a scar under his left eye.

After confirming the description, Mr. O’Daniel was invited to Evansville to pick up his missing pet.

Before O’Daniel arrived, Tuscy spent some time with sheriff’s deputies, even attending a roll call.
