The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library system is among 30 finalists for a national award.

The Director and CEO of the EVPL, Cyndee Landrum, told a gathering at Central Library about a message she received from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Landrum said she was notified that the local library system made the final 30.

Vanderburgh County Commissioner Cheryl Musgrave told the crowd the library has always been there for her. She said when she and her husband moved to Evansville, they checked out the public library "right away." She said she could testify that the EVPL changes lives and "creates futures."

And Mayor Winnecke said the national recognition is well-deserved.

The institute will seek online public comments about the EVPL Tuesday, March 28th. The EVPL will provide links to the institute’s site on the library’s Facebook page and through other social media.
