Amendment to add Election Day hours fails

A state representative from Evansville has failed in an attempt to expand Election Day voting by two hours.

Indiana State Rep. Ryan Hatfield attempted to add the extra two hours of voting as an amendment to a measure on establishing vote centers.

But the first term Democrat says it failed in committee.

("Once again, the Republicans ruled us out of order. It's the second time they've done this on elections bills aimed at opening up the process and for fair elections that give everyone the right to vote.")

The bill would allow county election boards to change a precinct voting system to a vote center system with a simple majority. Current law requires a unanimous vote by a county election board.

The bill advanced to third reading in the Indiana House.
