Warren looking forward to hotel ribbon cutting

J

A ribbon will be cut Tuesday, opening a new convention hotel in Downtown Evansville.

The Executive Director of the local Convention and Visitors Bureau will be among the most delighted to see the Hilton Doubletree open for business.

Bob Warren tells WNIN News his agency has been “actively engaged” in selling the hotel and the adjacent Old National Events Plaza for the past year.

(He says they're bringing in some planners tours who want to see how the facility would work for their conventions. Warren also says they're reaching out to previous conventions who conducted their in events in Evansville before 2009.)

That’s when the Executive Inn -- which carried the Radisson brand in its later years -- closed and was demolished to make way for the Ford Center.

Pedestrian bridges will connect the new 240-room hotel with the arena and the convention center.

Warren says the hotel should generate $6-to-6.5 million a year in lodging expenses.

(He says it should then generate another $6-to-6.5 million for about $13 million in annual revenues.)

Warren says the planned Hyatt Place hotel and the existing Tropicana hotel will serve as Downtown “overflow hotels” during large conventions.
