The former Evansville IceMen hockey team is headed to Florida.
The East Coast Hockey League has announced the IceMen will begin playing in Jacksonville this October.
The team was bound for Owensboro in 2016, after the city of Evansville and team owner Ron Geary couldn’t reach an agreement to keep the IceMen at the Ford Center.
But an agreement was never finalized to renovate the Owensboro Sports Center and move the team to the western Kentucky city.
Geary says on the ECHL website that Jacksonville is a “great sports town” and an “excellent geographic fit” for the team that plays in the league’s South Division.
After losing the IceMen, Evansville entered an agreement with the Southern Professional Hockey League and brought the Thunderbolts to the city.
The team plays at the 11,000-seat Ford Center.
