IN and KY rank low in well-being survey

Indiana and Kentucky are near the bottom of a new list of states’ well-being.

Indiana ranked 47th and Kentucky came in 49th in the survey conducted by Gallup-Healthways.

The study surveyed more than 177,000 Americans via phone on their satisfaction in five categories: social, financial, purpose, community, and physical health.

Indiana’s highest rankings were in financial and community satisfaction -- 30th and 38th respectively.

The 2016 study showed historically low smoking rates, historically high rates of exercise, and high scores on healthcare access and insurance coverage.

But chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and depression were at their highest points since 2008.

Hawaii, Alaska, and South Dakota topped the overall poll.
