VA Town Hall Tuesday evening

Veterans are invited to a town hall meeting in Evansville this (Tues) evening.

The Marion, Illinois office of Veterans Affairs will conduct the town hall at VFW Post 1114 on Wabash Avenue.

The agency says the “open table discussion” starts at 5pm.

Both veterans and community members are invited to the Evansville event.

Representatives from the Veterans Benefit Administration and National Cemetery Administration will be on hand to answer questions about VA Claims and Burial Benefits.

The $16 billion Veterans Choice and Accountability Act of 2014 was designed to help veterans get medical care more quickly.

The Choice Act also channeled about $2.5 billion for hiring more doctors, nurses and other medical staff at VA medical centers.

But an investigation by NPR and member stations found the VA has about the same number of new hires as the VA would have been projected to hire without the additional $2.5 billion; the new hires weren't sent to VA hospitals with the longest wait times; and the VA medical centers that got new hires were not more likely to see improved wait times.
