Deaconess turns 125

John Gibson

Deaconess Hospital has launched its 125th anniversary celebration.

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke read a proclamation and presented it to Deaconess President and CEO Linda White, who retires in August.

Registered Nurse Marlene Waller started her career at Deaconess in the late 1970’s and is now head of the emergency department at both the main and Gateway campuses.

As the hospital celebrates 125 years, Waller tells WNIN News a lot has changed in just the past 35.

Waller says she also plans to end her career at Deaconess.

A timeline, historical photographs, and mannequins wearing medical gear from the past are on display in the lobby of the Deaconess lobby off Mary Street.
