Two children dead after fall through ice

Authorities have identified two twelve-year-olds who died after falling through ice in Pike County.

The Department of Natural Resources identifies the victims as Paige Bailey and Bryce Phillips, both of Winslow.

It happened late Thursday afternoon at a private residence on County Road 725-South, about a mile and a half south of State Road 64.

A diver rescued Bailey and Phillips after both had been under water at least half an hour.

Both were taken to Memorial Hospital in Jasper, where they were pronounced dead.

Autopsies are scheduled for Saturday. Foul play is not suspected.

Indiana Conservation Officers estimate the ice was an inch to an inch and a half thick. They say ice should be at least four inches thick to support the weight of a person and you should always wear a life jacket on ice.
