Lane restrictions coming to Twin Bridges

Traveling between Evansville and Henderson may be a little more complicated next week.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says each bridge will be down to one lane starting Monday for a fall clean-up.

Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says in a news release that the work will include clearing drains, removing debris, and general maintenance.

Traffic will be restricted between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Crews hope to wrap up the work Wednesday afternoon.

The northbound bridge opened in 1932 as a two-way span. Its so-called “twin” opened in 1965.

Officials in both Indiana and Kentucky are pursuing an I-69 bridge that would reduce traffic on the Twin Bridges.

Governors Pence and Bevin signed an agreement in June to launch study and design work for the new span.

Preliminary plans call for building the new four-lane bridge just east of the existing Twin Bridges.
