A woman is dead, after being hit by a pickup truck in northern Vanderburgh County.

The sheriff’s office says in a news release that 51-year-old Janet Sue Gries of Evansville was jogging westbound on Boonville-New Harmony Road near Gilles Lane at about 5:00 Tuesday morning.

An eastbound pickup truck driven by 22-year-old Coleman Matthew Sheridan hit Gries and she died at the scene.

The sheriff’s office says Sheridan told deputies that he was reaching for a can of tobacco on the floor of the truck prior to the collision.

Sheridan consented to a post-crash blood-draw, which is required by state law in crashes involving death or serious injury.

No charges have been filed against Sheridan. The sheriff’s office is still investigating.
