Amy Scharf founded Main Street Dance at the beginning of the summer with no funding, only the goal of putting on an original ballet.
Scharf said she wanted "An American Cinderella," to bring a new production with fresh choreography to Evansville.
"This is something that people have never seen before," she said. "There's something very magical about taking this idea and watching it and devising it and creating it until it becomes this three-dimensional thing."
Main Street Dance gives students a physical and creative outlet during the summer when many other studios have reduced hours, Scharf said.
"They're free ballet classes and that was part of the mission, too--to give students who maybe can't afford it a chance to have this opportunity to dance," she said.
She said she hopes to continue creating original ballets and to expand the company to include more members of the community.
"An American Cinderella" will play at the Victory Theatre August 6-7.
