More than 9 inches of rain fell in July

Last month was the third soggiest July ever recorded in Evansville.

The National Weather Service recorded more than nine inches of rain at Evansville Regional Airport in July.

Meteorologist Rick Shanklin tells WNIN that’s more than double the average for the month. The average is just under four inches.

Parts of western Kentucky saw even heavier rainfall amounts in July.

Shanklin says by this time of the summer, the Tri-State is usually blocked from much of the moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. But he says the pattern has been unusual, with fronts diving south into our region and producing more thunderstorms.

Shanklin says chances for rain continue through this first week of August. He says the pattern shows no sign of changing.
