Worthingtons win Mayor's Arts Award

John Gibson

The Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana has announced the winners of its 2016 Arts Awards.

Steve and Susan Worthington were named the recipients of the Mayor’s Arts Award.

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke said the Worthingtons are strong supporters of the arts. He called them "the first to help, the first to attend or the first to contribute.

Steve Worthington thanked the arts council, and offered encouraging words. He said the arts are "alive and well in Evansville and all of southwestern Indiana," thanks to "dedicated advocates and educators," "talented artists," "outstanding institutions," and "private, public, and corporate support."

Worthington said he and his wife were on vacation during a recent event involving their young granddaughter.

They missed their young grand-daughter's first public ballet performance.

Worthington jokingly asked if he still gets to keep the art award, and Mayor Winnecke joked that perhaps the award should be reconsidered.

The other award recipients are: the Warrick County Summer Musical, Will Read and Sing for Food, the Eyekamp Quartet, Joan DeJong, Anne Fiedler, Ross Hanson, and Robert O. Shetler.

All eight winners will be honored during an arts council banquet August 18th.
