The local Chamber of Commerce is a finalist for a national award.
The Southwest Indiana Chamber is a finalist for National Chamber of the Year in its category of the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives.
CEO Christy Gillenwater tells Inside Indiana Business that she appreciates the state’s help, especially for the Regional Cities program, legislative approval of land-based gaming, and progress on I-69.
Gillenwater says the recognition illustrates the success of the chamber's "alliance model," which involves eight alliances focusing on areas including family businesses, business owner diversity, and young professionals.
The Southwest Indiana Chamber is competing in category three, which is the association's second-largest grouping. The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce in Kentucky is also in the running.
The next steps in the award process will take place in August during the ACCE Convention in Savannah, Georgia.
