With forecasters calling for sunny, hot weather through the weekend, the Evansville EPA has extended the Ozone Alert.

The agency now says ground-level ozone in the Evansville area may each unhealthy levels through Sunday.

The EPA says sensitive groups like children, older adults, and people with respiratory conditions should limit outdoor activity, especially between noon and 7:00 p.m. each day.

In addition to conserving energy, avoiding unnecessary driving and idling, and postponing lawn work, the EPA also urges residents to postpone painting projects, and limit the use of cleaning fluids, paint thinners, and other materials containing volatile organic compounds.

The National Weather Service is predicting sunny skies and temperatures above 90 with little or no wind through Monday.

The local EPA says the conditions may send ozone levels above the 8-hour ozone standard established by the federal EPA.
