You may notice larger aircraft flying in and out of Evansville Regional Airport.
Allegiant Air is now offering two direct flights a week between Evansville and Orlando/Sanford International Airport.
The Orlando flights will be on MD-80 jet aircraft, which seat 166 people. Most flights at the Evansville airport use smaller, 50-seat jets.
The home of Disney World becomes the local airport’s sixth direct destination, along with Chicago, Atlanta, Charlotte, Detroit, and Dallas.
Officials announced the new flights in March. Mayor Winnecke called Allegiant’s decision a “precursor to more great things” for Evansville Regional.
Allegiant Air already provides direct flights between Owensboro and Orlando. Officials say those flights will continue.
Evansville is one of three new cities for the growing airline. The others are Albuquerque, New Mexico and Sonoma, California.
