Police arrest second man for dog dragging death

Authorities have arrested a second man in connection with the dragging death of a dog.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says 24-year-old Brandyn Cox, drove the pickup truck with the dog named Hank tied to the trailer hitch for more than five miles.

Cox faces six charges, including four counts of animal cruelty. The two others — intimidation and attempted interference with reporting a crime — stem from his alleged actions when a motorist tried to stop and alert Cox that there was a dog carcass attached to his truck.

The man accused of tying the dog to the vehicle, 44-year-old Jamie McFarland, was arrested Wednesday.

He was reportedly angered that the dog had defecated in his house in the 5100 block of Old Henderson Road.

McFarland allegedly tied the dog to the truck while Cox was using the bathroom inside McFarland's home.

Cox told authorities he didn’t know the dog was tied to the truck.

Sheriff Dave Wedding told the Courier and Press that Cox wouldn't be charged – quote – “if we believed his total innocence.”
