Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump brought his campaign to Evansville on Thursday, and he drew a big crowd.
Supporters began lining-up outside the Old National Events Plaza early in the morning to get the best seats inside the Aiken Theater.
While waiting in line, they had plenty of opportunities to buy souvenirs like t-shirts, buttons, and well-known Trump baseball caps.
Shortly after noon, Trump took the stage in front of a packed house and introduced his special guest, former IU basketball coach Bobby Knight. He called Trump a “great American” who could “play for him.”
Knight also made it clear he wasn’t supporting either political party. He said he "didn't give a damn" about the Republicans or the Democrats.
Trump hit on familiar themes like job losses and border security. As president, he said companies that leave the U.S. will face consequences.
The crowd cheered when Trump referred to rival Ted Cruz as “Lyin’ Ted” and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton as “Crooked Hillary.”
Only Trump and Knight appeared onstage. They did not share the stage with any local, state, or political officials.
