Strong storms that rolled through the Evansville area Tuesday evening apparently included a tornado.
The National Weather Service says preliminary surveying suggests an EF1 tornado with winds of about 100 miles-an-hour struck the Evansville area.
The Emergency Management Agency received numerous reports of downed electrical lines, trees, and utility poles in northwestern Vanderburgh County, where hundreds of Vectren customers were still without electricity Wednesday morning.
Vectren says outages topped 12,000 in southwest Indiana between 6:00 and 7:00 Tuesday evening.
The Weather Service received reports of funnel clouds and a tornado was reported in the Newburgh area, prompting the agency to issue a Tornado Warning.
No injuries were reported.
Kentucky officials say high winds blew barges loose on the Ohio River between Evansville and Henderson, and some of them struck the Twin Bridges. An inspection of the bridges showed no damage.
The chance for severe storms continues through Wednesday evening.
