Tropicana earnings up in March

Evansville’s Tropicana casino is reporting an earnings increase.

The Indiana Gaming Commission says Tropicana brought in nearly $10.9 million in March. That’s up from just above $10 million during the same period last year.

Ten of Indiana’s 13 gaming facilities reported increases last month, including the French Lick casino -- which reported more than $6.6 million in March. That’s up from $6.2 million in March 2015.

Across the state, gaming facilities earned nearly $199 million last month.

Tropicana and the city of Evansville announced an agreement in November that will move the gaming operation from the riverboat to dry land.

The deal includes a $25 million payment to the city in two chunks.

The agreement also requires Tropicana to contribute $1 million for the possible relocation of LST 325 to the current riverboat site.

Tropicana purchased four properties on Riverside Drive between its two hotels for the new casino.

Construction is expected to start soon, with the casino opening in late 2017.
