Severe storms possible Thursday; tornadoes hit western KY last weekend

Officials say severe weather is possible in the Tri-State on Thursday.

Forecasting models put the Evansville area in a “slight risk” zone for severe storms.

Rain is forecast to move into the area Wednesday night and strong storms will develop Thursday, ahead of a cold front.

Meantime, the National Weather Service says two tornadoes touched down in western Kentucky's Muhlenberg County and three twisters were recorded in Christian County over the weekend, when severe storms passed through the region.

The weather service office in Paducah says an EF-2 tornado hit northern Christian County Sunday evening and two EF-0 tornados hit other parts of the county.

The weather service says the EF-2 twister destroyed 16 barns and damaged 10 others -- as well as two homes.

No injuries were reported.
