Vectren wants to keep Posey in attainment

Vectren says it’s taking steps to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions at its A.B. Brown plant.

The Evansville-based utility says it’s voluntarily opening and reassessing its air permit for the power plant in Posey County.

The U.S. EPA recently listed the county among regions with coal-fired plants that are exceeding sulfur dioxide emission standards.

In a news release, Vectren President and CEO Carl Chapman says as environmental policies change, the utility is working to ensure the region remains “in attainment.”

Chapman says Vectren’s environmental staff has been working with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to revise its air permit and respond to the EPA.

Environmental groups, including the Sierra Club, say IDEM isn’t doing enough to reduce the pollution.

IDEM is holding a public hearing on the issue this (Wed) evening. It begins at 6:00 p.m. at the Mt. Vernon fire station at 529 Main Street in the Posey County town.
