Specialty grocer to open on Main St. April 1

A specialty grocery store will open in less than two weeks in Downtown Evansville.

Owner Julie Kruse says in a news release that Jules Specialty Grocery and Gift Shop will open April 1st, inside the Bitterman Building at 204 Main Street.

Kruse says the store will offer a variety of products, including organic and local produce, gluten-free and vegan selections, as well as general grocery items and baked goods.

Kruse says more than 130 housing units are under construction within a few blocks of the store and she believes it’s a “great time” to open the business.

The building, constructed in 1906, most recently housed the Bitterman Mini Shoppes and Farmer’s Market.

The Bitterman shops closed in January, but similar merchandise can be found at the new River City Mercantile – also on Main Street.
