The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation has announced a college savings plan for its employees.
EVSC Superintendent David Smith told reporters that employees can enroll in the College Choice 529 plan for their children, grandchildren, or themselves.
He says many teachers want to further their education and can save for it through the plan.
Smith says all employees can take advantage of the payroll deduction, including teacher assistants, bus drivers, bus aids, custodians, and secretaries.
He says he's signed up for the savings plan himself.
Troy Montigney is Executive Director of the Indiana Education Savings Authority. He say the savings can be used at a variety of institutions, including two-and-four year colleges, universities, graduate schools, and vocational schools.
Eligible employees can contribute up to $14,000 a year, and receive up to a $1,000 tax credit on contributions to the College Choice plan.
