One storm gone, another on the way

The first of two predicted snowstorms this week dropped more than three inches on Evansville.

The National Weather Service measured 3.3 inches of snow at Evansville Regional Airport before the snow tapered off Wednesday morning.

Owensboro recorded three-and-a-half inches. Spencer County received up to four inches.

Slippery conditions on both major and secondary roads forced many area school systems to cancel classes.

City, county, and state road crews plowed the snow and spread melting materials to improve conditions on the major roads. Secondary roads and side streets remain slippery.

A second winter storm is predicted to move into the Tri-State Thursday evening.

Forecasters say this second storm could start as a mix of rain, freezing rain, and sleet, before changing to accumulating snow.

The weather service says – quote – “THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR SUBSTANTIAL ACCUMULATIONS OF ICE AND SNOW.”

Models show the storm may hit western Kentucky harder than southwestern Indiana.
