"Bent Twig" sculpture planned for USI

The University of Southern Indiana has chosen two artists to create a piece of public art.

USI has commissioned Professor Emeritus of Art John McNaughton and artist Joan Kempf DeJong to install a sculpture on the new Robert E. Griffin Center, which is under construction.

A news release from USI says the proposed work, “Bent Twig,” is based on a twig and branch composition that will stand 22 feet long and eight feet high. It will be constructed by Evansville Sheet Metal.

The sculpture will be erected on the new meeting center on the west side of Reflection Lake. A ribbon cutting is planned for May 6th.

The center was made possible through private donations to the USI Foundation.

Foundation Director David Bower says the university is grateful for generous friends and alumni, and proud of its growing art collection.
