City considering options in IceMen contract dispute

Evansville officials are considering alternatives -- including attracting a new hockey team -- if the city and the IceMen can’t reach an agreement.

The city was expecting a new offer from owner Ron Geary Tuesday.

Redevelopment Commission President Randy Alsman tells WNIN News that he hopes to keep the minor league team playing at the Ford Center. But he says the effort to reach a contract agreement has been long and difficult, with changing deadlines.

Geary has demanded a new contract with lower rent.

The team paid nearly $400,000 to rent the Ford Center for home games last season, but that figure doesn't include rebates, which city officials say reduced the IceMen’s rent to almost nothing.
