River rising, 2015 temperatures up

The Ohio River is rising and expected to stay above flood stage for several days.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the river, starting Wednesday.

Robyn Smith at the weather service office in Paducah tells WNIN that the river is approaching Evansville’s flood level of 42 feet, and will crest at 42.9 feet on Friday.

High water has already closed many low-lying roads, including Waterworks between LST Drive and Highway 41, both Weinbach and Green River south of I-69, and a number of roads in the Union Township bottoms.

The rising river has chased deer onto Highway 41, just south of the Twin Bridges. Police urge drivers to be extra cautious in that area.

Meantime, temperatures in 2015 followed an upward trend. The month of December is running 22 degrees above normal.

Temperatures were 3.5 degrees above normal in the fall, .02 degrees above normal in the summer, and 1.4 degrees above normal last spring.
