Irish chemical company coming to Evansville

An Ireland-based chemical company plans to establish a North American headquarters in Evansville.

Microbide says it will invest $1.8 million in a manufacturing and distribution center and create 18 high-paying jobs by 2018.

The Dublin-based company will partner with the University of Southern Indiana and temporarily work out of the school's laboratories.

Company spokesman James O'Reilly says Evansville has a “nucleus of chemical experts and distribution patterns” that the company will need.

The jobs announcement was one of several made by Gov. Mike Pence during a news conference conducted by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation in Indianapolis.

In a statement, Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says he’s pleased and thrilled to welcome Microbide to Evansville. He says the community is the “ideal place” for the company to grow and expand.
