Study: much of SW Indiana is thriving

Much of Southwest Indiana fares well in a new Community Vitality Index.

The Indiana University Public Policy Institute has released results of a study that show disparities in the personal and economic situations of Indiana communities.

The results put Vanderburgh, Warrick, Posey, Gibson, Spencer, and Dubois counties in the “thriving” end of the scale, while Pike and Knox counties leaned more toward the “challenged” end of the index.

The study shows some rural and urban areas of Indiana are struggling.

It considered factors for each county, including income, education, rates of unemployment and disability benefits, life expectancy, and obesity levels.
