Chamber endorses Winnecke, incumbents, and newcomers

The Southwest Indiana Chamber’s political action committee has endorsed incumbent Mayor Lloyd Winnecke for re-election.

The PAC has also endorsed four candidates for three city council seats.

The Jobs for Southwest Indiana Committee calls Winnecke a “true champion of business in Southwest Indiana and for the city of Evansville.”

J-PAC co-chair Mike Schopmeyer says in a news release that Winnecke has shown leadership in the Downtown hotel project, the IU School of Medicine, and his ability to bring jobs to the city.

Winnecke faces Democratic State Representative Gail Riecken in next month’s mayoral election.

J-PAC also endorsed incumbent First Ward City Councilman Dan McGinn, Fourth Ward incumbent Connie Robinson, and two newcomers: Third Ward candidate Anna Hargis and Fifth Ward candidate Justin Elpers.

J-PAC is endorsing four candidates for the three City Council At-Large seats: Incumbents Dan Adams and Jonathan Weaver, and first-time candidates Jack Schriber and Alex Burton.

The PAC says the At-Large race is a ”unique situation” because four candidates strongly support business and the interests of the Chamber.
