INDOT has declared the cloverleaf project at the Lloyd Expressway and Highway 41 “substantially completed.”
Crews unveiled a bold, black-lettered “City of Evansville” sign on the 41 overpass above the Lloyd on Wednesday.
The agency’s Rusty Fowler says crews are wrapping up the $19 million project less than a year after ground was broken.
Republican Mayor Lloyd Winnecke struck a bipartisan note, as he recalled INDOT’s original idea for the project. He lauded former Democratic mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel for rejecting the agency's plan to remove two stoplights from the Lloyd and put them on Highway 41.
Democratic State Representative Gail Riecken – who’s running against Winnecke in the mayor’s race – also attended the unveiling.
Crews still have to complete some “finishing touches” before they can remove the orange barrels.
